Autumn fruit highly contaminated

Exposing ongoing pesticide contamination on the anniversary of Silent Spring

Autumn fruit is highly contaminated with the most hazardous category of pesticides, the latest government data shows. High rates of European pears (49%), table grapes (44%), apples (34%), plums (29%) and raspberries (25%) were sold with residues of pesticides linked to increased risk of cancer, birth deformities, heart disease and other serious conditions, the latest data shows. Most are a threat even at very low doses. Read the press release here.

Pesticide Action Network Europe’s report was covered by at least 157 media outlets, including SAPO, Tagesspiegel, Yahoo France, Svenska Dagbladet and La Libre. Outlets featured the story prominently (e.g. Dnevnik and Der Standard). It was a privilege to be asked to launch this report for the 60th anniversary of Rachel Carson’s seismic book Silent Spring, and the PAN team were a real pleasure to work with.
