Health officials in Brussels are blocking progress on the biggest upgrade of EU chemical safety laws in a decade, according to a leaked European Commission document. It shows officials from the health department frequently making arguments of a commercial nature in order to maintain slow and narrow chemical controls. Read the full press release here.
The story was picked up by some of Europe’s best known newspapers, including Le Parisien, Le Monde, MediaPart, Suddeutsche Zeitung and Expresso. One senior industry figure said the leak and media exposure “changed everything” in favour of stricter regulation.
