As a former UK print news journalist, I understand what reporters need to see, when and how. Unusually for freelancers, I love to dig deep, working closely with policy teams to build out a media package and maximise the news value of an NGO report, poll, protest or stunt. This can make the difference between a handful and hundreds of articles at launch, my normal target.

This relies on a vibrant media database, not a dusty old commercial database or unloved spreadsheet. After a decade of obsessive curation and studying European media markets, my list of 3,000 journalists centres on environment, health, science, business, foreign and political desks at the most influential national outlets.
